Veterans' Home Care
The Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA) has introduced the Veterans' Home Care Program to help veterans and war widows/widowers remain in their own homes for longer.
Veterans' Home Care support services include:
- Domestic Assistance
- Personal Care
- Respite Care
- Home and Garden Maintenance (limited to 15 hours per year) - used for ensuring the safety of the client.
To be eligible for Veterans' Home Care you must be:
- A veteran of the Australian defence forces; or
- An Australian Mariner; or
- a defence or war widow/widower of a veteran of the Australian defence forces or an Australian mariner;
AND HAVE:
- A Repatriation Health Care - for all conditions (Gold Card); or
- A Repatriation Health Card - for specific conditions (White Card).
Some veterans may be currently receiving home support services through HACC, and if eligible, may choose to transfer to Veterans' Home Care and continue to receive services from the same organisation.
The Department of Veterans' Affairs can assess your needs, determine an appropriate plan of support and care for you, and refer you to an agency to provide the services.
